Team Cleveland is a charitable organization established to educate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) community about the benefits of participation in team and individual sports. While working within the broader community to end discrimination against LGBT people participating in sports, Team Cleveland endows and confers scholarships upon LGBT student-athletes, supports a network of sporting outlets for the LGBT community of the Greater Cleveland/Akron area, and promotes participation in local, regional, national and international amateur sports competitions.
Team Cleveland encourages and supports involvement in team and individual sports within both the LGBT community and Greater Cleveland communities in general. To meet this objective, Team Cleveland strives to promote excellence, integrity, and good sportsmanship in individual and team sports.
Team Cleveland serves as a clearinghouse for information about
the various sports teams, clubs, and events in the Greater
Cleveland area. It is a volunteer-based organization that also provides information and support to both individuals and sport clubs active in the Greater Cleveland/Akron area.
Team Cleveland coordinated the local delegation to the Quadrennial Gay Games and Cultural Festival. GG9 was held in 2014 in Cleveland+Akron. The next Gay Games will be held in 2018 in Paris, France.
Team Cleveland, established in 2012, is a membership organization led by an Executive Council and includes a Sports Council with representation from all affiliated sports teams and groups.
